Polish Constitution Day  3nd May  2008

 

On Saturday 3rd May the Society of New Icelanders, The Polish consulate and the Red Cross Akranes branch will hold a celebration for the Polish Constiution Day. The details  have not been finalised yet. June and August there will be no events due to summer holidays.

 

Irish Days—Akranes  4th—6th July

 

There will be an Irish Days festival in Akranes. The society of new Icelanders will be taking part in several events.

 

On the Friday and Saturday afternoons we will be selling simple Irish food. We are looking for volunteers to help out.

 

On Friday 4th July in the afternoon there will be a Celtic dancing workshop. If you want to attend please contact Pauline at [e-mail]  Later that night there will be held a traditional Celtic Ceilidh Dance open to the general public. The instructions for the dances will be in English.

 

Over the weekend there will be several concerts given by the Celtic band “Óran Mor” (meaning The Great Melody of Life) some of who’s members are also members of the Society of New Icelanders.

 

Our member Hanna Rós Jónasdóttir  will be playing the Harp.

 

There will also be many other events over the weekend. It will be a great destination for the whole family to experience some Celtic fun. For more information please see the website www.irskirdagar.is nearer the time.
